Maternity care and maternity package
National trends
Due to a nationwide staff shortage, the maternity care sector is currently facing significant challenges. According to the Health Insurance Act, you are entitled to a minimum of 24 hours of maternity care. We encourage you to seek additional support from your own network for after the birth. It can only be decided in exceptional (medical) situations that you will be allocated more hours. This is for the maternity care organisation to determine further.
How to organise maternity care
We recommend that you register with a contracted maternity care organisation by the end of the 12th week of your pregnancy. If you register later, it is possible that the maternity care organisation you have chosen will no longer have availability around your due date.
Find a contracted maternity care provider
Please note: do not register with more than one maternity care organisation. This is due to the fact that registration costs are associated with each registration. If you cancel the registration, you will receive an invoice for these costs from your maternity care organisation. These costs are not reimbursed by Zorg en Zekerheid.
If you are having difficulty registering with a maternity care organisation, navigate to the page ‘Healthcare advice’ and click on the ‘Request help’ button.
Maternity care
The maternity assistant provides information, answers questions, provides support, and monitors the mother and baby during childbirth and in the days immediately following the birth. If required, the maternity assistant will alert the midwife or general practitioner.

Request the maternity package
Do you have the right supplementary insurance? You will receive the maternity package at home three months prior to the due date.
No reimbursement? Then you can purchase a maternity package yourself. To do this, visit a chemist or baby store nearby.
Sustainable maternity package
The maternity package includes a variety of items that you can use before, during, and after childbirth. The contents and packaging of the package consist of sustainable materials.

Switching to AV-GeZZin during the policy term
If you are pregnant or your child has just been born and you have supplementary insurance, you can change your supplementary insurance (excluding AV-Gemak Regio and AV-Gemak) to the AV-GeZZin during the policy term. You will then receive more comprehensive coverage for maternity care.
